Summer Cooling Methods - window films

Heat control film 50% reflective from gilafilms.com

The film kept the air between the blinds and the glass a consistent 5ºF cooler during the sunlight hours. By late afternoon the cumulative effect left the air in the room 10ºF cooler than it would have been. The natural light level was not noticeably dimmed. Since it only cost me $19 to cover the windows of that room, I felt that the cost was worth it but continued looking for something better. They also make a 70% reflective film I've not yet tested.

Thermal barrier

I simply tacked up a folded blanket over a window. Ugly but effective and cheap. Definitely not a solution for everyone for esthetic reasons and the fact that quite obviously it blocks out all natural light. Reduced heat by between the blinds and the glass 7-10ºF. Cumulative effect left the air in the room substantially cooler than it would have been.

"Limo dark"- dark black smoke tint blocks 80% of visible light transmission from Axius

Still in testing.
