Solar Tea

Materials neededLowe's part#price
1 gallon jar with tapn/a- Walmart0.99
1 gallon watern/a- around house0.00
2 tea bagsn/a- around house0.00
Total project price w/o tax~0.99

Instructions:
Drop tea bags into jar. Pour water into jar. Screw lid onto the jar. Place in sun. Loosen lid(to allow for expansion). Set tea in sun 4 hours to all day. Be sure to tighten back lid before you move it ;-) Also be careful it may still br hot!

Science fair ideas: -Try using a second jar painted black (you can get black spray paint from Walmart for .97) Use a thermometer and measure the differance. Which is warmer? Why. -What time of day do you get the best results.

Note: You can do the science experiment without buying jars. Just use two identical empty soda bottles.

Caution: If the tea tastes "odd" it may be caused by bacteria growth if the temperature is never gets to high enough to pasteurize(160 degrees F). This should not be a problem on hot sunny days. But on cloudy or cold days an adult should inspect the tea first.
